Summer on the Waterfront Returns with the Opening of Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest and More

DRWC is thrilled to announce the return of a full summer on the Waterfront with fantastic new food and drink, time-ticketed roller skating, cashless arcade games, and of course all of the COVID protocols in place to allow for a safe, relaxed, and fun summer 2021.

The Delaware River Waterfront, Philadelphia’s most sprawling and beloved al fresco summertime destination, announces the return of a full Summer on the Waterfront season featuring several popular amenities that have been absent since summer 2019. The summer will kick off with the opening of Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest which opens this Friday, May 7th along with an exciting program of appropriately-sized performances, events, and exhibits at the year-round Cherry Street Pier, and will follow up a short time afterward with the reopening of Spruce Street Harbor Park, complete with some exciting new food offerings.

Delaware River Waterfront Corporation Hires Larry Bell as Chief Financial Officer

The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC) is pleased to announce the addition of Larry Bell as Chief Financial Officer, effective April 19, 2021.

“We’re very excited to welcome Larry to the DRWC leadership team in the newly created position of Chief Financial Officer. Larry brings a unique skillset to DRWC through his experience in the for profit and nonprofit sectors, and as a small business entrepreneur. His financial acumen, operational experience, and strong relationships best position DRWC and the Philadelphia Waterfront for continued growth and success,” said Joe Forkin, president of the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation.

Previously, Mr. Bell was the Executive Vice President and CFO of The Enterprise Center (an organization he co-founded), which provides access to capital, capacity building, business education, and economic development opportunities to high-potential minority entrepreneurs. In this role, he was responsible for all financial aspects of the organization including its capital lending initiatives.

Spring Blossoms on the Waterfront with Tons of Exciting New Art Exhibitions, Markets, Performances, and Outdoor Dining Experiences

The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC) is excited to announce the 2021 Spring programming calendar at Cherry Street Pier as a new season blossoms along the Philadelphia Waterfront.

For those people itching to get out of the house and enjoy all that Philly has to offer again, Cherry Street Pier will be a safe, fun Spring destination. The fun begins the first weekend in April with the opening of three new exhibitions, two jazz concerts, two vibrant markets, open studio tours, and art classes. The outdoor Garden Restaurant, run by Four Corners Management, also makes its long-awaited return for weekend pop-up service, providing guests with delicious food, wine, and beer, and unparalleled river and bridge views.

New, Large-Scale Neon Installation Opens at Cherry Street Pier

Opening on November 6th, 2020, multimedia artist John Schlesinger’s After the Fall is a site-responsive installation that roots and twists through Philadelphia’s Cherry Street Pier, a 65,000 square-foot arts-focused public space along the Waterfront.

Schlesinger, an award-winning photographer-turned-sculptor with work in permanent collections and museums around the country, presents his largest exhibition to date with this collection.

Embracing the history on the Waterfront through its use of architectural materials reclaimed from it—skylight windows salvaged from Cherry Street Pier and metal and stone from construction projects. Schlesinger uses materials that have seen 100 years of sunlight, rebar, and concrete that have witnessed the rise and fall of our built environment. Visitors will be presented with the narratives of trauma, loss, memories, and renewal through the eyes of architectural features both present and gone.

The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC) is excited to welcome its second-year cohort of resident artists at Cherry Street Pier, the Waterfront’s newest public park and incubator space that showcases Philadelphia’s creative community. The Pier, which features an outdoor garden, exhibition and installation areas, and dining with spectacular views, includes 14 artist studios built out of retrofitted shipping containers.

The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation Announces Selection of Developer for Penn’s Landing.

Today, the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC) announced the selection of The Durst Organization as the lead developer for the Penn’s Landing project. The Board of Directors voted unanimously to select The Durst Organization at a public meeting, concluding a robust multiyear community engagement process. The proposed development will be located on available DRWC controlled parcels at Penn’s Landing on Columbus Boulevard between Lombard and Market Streets.

DRWC Announces Campaign to Raise Funds to Outfit and Furnish New Penn's Landing Park

The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC) is excited to announce a capital campaign to raise funds to outfit the new Park at Penn’s Landing, and that the campaign has launched with a $2 million challenge grant from The Pew Charitable Trusts; $4 million more is needed to reach the fundraising goal.

Specifically, the funds will be used to outfit the park with landscaping, such as trees, flowers, shrubs, and other greenery; furnishings, such as seating and child play areas; a café; and a performance space for hosting concerts, festivals, and other activities. All of the outfitting and furnishings incorporate initial feedback from Philadelphia residents and other stakeholders, which was received as part of DRWC’s long-term, ongoing public engagement process for the new space.

Nationwide Call for Developers for Eleven Acres on Philadelphia Waterfront

The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation released a Request for Proposals for qualified developers to transform prime waterfront land at Penn’s Landing into mixed-use development sites.

The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC) announced a Request for Proposal (RFP) seeking qualified teams to develop eleven acres of prime waterfront land as the organization continues to implement key recommendations of its Master Plan for the Central Delaware. Real estate investment firm Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) is helping to market this opportunity.

The development opportunity features two parcels which are currently used primarily as surface parking lots: the Market Street Site, which is almost seven-and-a-half acres spanning from Market Street to Chestnut Street; and the Marina Basin Site which is almost four acres covering Spruce Street to Lombard Street. Both sites are zoned for high-density mixed-use development and feature stunning views of the Delaware River and Philadelphia skyline. The Marina Basin site is adjacent to the highly successful Spruce Street Harbor Park and the Market Street site is adjacent to the new Park at Penn’s Landing. This transformational, new 12-acre, $225 million public park is scheduled to open in 2024. Teams are invited to respond to the RFP to develop one or both sites by February 7, 2020. Latest Community Engagement Phase Kicks Off For New Park at Penn's Landing

Philadelphia residents from all neighborhoods invited to give input on the future of the highly anticipated new public park along the Waterfront.

On October 17th, the public is invited to join the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC), the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), and the City of Philadelphia (the City) at a public meeting and open house about the new Penn’s Landing. This Interstate 95 project includes the reconstruction and expansion of a new bridge over I-95 that will support a new 12-acre riverfront civic space, the extension of South Street Pedestrian Bridge, and the construction of a portion of the Delaware River Trail.

This meeting will launch a multi-year community engagement effort and will be a chance for Philadelphians from across the city and from every background to hear the latest on the design for the new Penn’s Landing, contribute ideas on how to use the new public spaces, and learn how to continue to be a part of the Waterfront’s transformation.
