The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC) is seeking energetic, service-oriented Safety Ambassadors to join our Site Operations team. As one of the first points of contact for visitors, Safety Ambassadors help create a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable experience by providing exceptional customer service, assisting guests, supporting festivals and special events, managing crowds, and monitoring public spaces for safety concerns. This is an entry-level, seasonal position at approximately 40 hours a week with overtime as needed.

Guest Experience & Customer Service

  • Serve as a friendly, approachable, and visible representative of DRWC throughout the waterfront.
  • Welcome visitors and provide exceptional customer service by answering questions, offering directions, and sharing information about waterfront attractions, events, amenities, parking, and transportation.
  • Assist guests with accessibility needs whenever possible and provide support to ensure an inclusive visitor experience.
  • Build positive relationships with visitors by engaging with the public in a professional, respectful, and helpful manner.
  • Provide assistance to families, including helping reunite lost children or separated guests with their groups in accordance with established procedures.
  • Respond to guest concerns and resolve issues using sound judgment, professionalism, and effective communication.
     

Event Operations

  • Support Waterfront festivals, concerts, fireworks, races, markets, and other special events by assisting with guest flow and event operations.
  • Help maintain orderly pedestrian movement and assist with crowd management before, during, and after events.
  • Provide wayfinding assistance and help guests locate entrances, exits, restrooms, first aid stations, transportation, parking, and event amenities.
  • Assist with temporary road closures, pedestrian crossings, and traffic control under the direction of supervisors.
  • Work collaboratively with event staff, vendors, emergency responders, and law enforcement to ensure safe and successful operations.

 

Safety & Site Monitoring

  • Conduct routine patrols of DRWC facilities, parks, parking areas, trails, and event spaces.
  • Observe and report safety hazards, maintenance concerns, suspicious activity, damaged infrastructure, lighting outages, unsecured areas, or other issues requiring attention.
  • Encourage voluntary compliance with DRWC policies through courteous communication and verbal de-escalation.
  • Notify supervisors of policy violations and contact emergency services or law enforcement when appropriate.
  • Respond to emergencies including medical incidents, severe weather, evacuations, and other situations in accordance with DRWC procedures.
  • Assist emergency responders by helping maintain safe perimeters and directing guests away from affected areas.
     

Reporting & Communication

  • Complete timely, accurate incident and activity reports.
  • Document guest concerns, injuries, property damage, lost-and-found items, and unusual occurrences.
  • Communicate effectively using two-way radios, mobile devices, and electronic reporting systems.
  • Maintain situational awareness and promptly share important information with supervisors and fellow team members.
     

Additional Responsibilities

  • Operate DRWC vehicles for roving patrols or event support, when assigned.
  • Wear the assigned uniform and maintain a professional appearance at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
     

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English sufficiently to understand written instructions and communicate effectively.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, courteous, and professional in busy or stressful environments.
  • Strong observation skills and sound judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to learn DRWC policies and procedures quickly.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and large public events.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening required.
  • A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record are required for employees assigned to roving patrol duties.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in customer service, hospitality, tourism, event operations, parks and recreation, security, public safety, or related fields.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Experience working large public events.
  • Bilingual or multilingual communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license for employees assigned to roving patrol duties.

Physical Requirements

  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Navigate stairs, uneven terrain, and crowded event environments.
  • Frequently bend, stoop, reach, and climb.
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 35 pounds.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
