Roots of Resilience explores the many cultures that have helped shape the city. Artists were invited to design flags that tell stories of hope, strength, and community, honoring the journeys of those who made Philly their home. From textiles to digital art, these powerful designs will fly high at Spruce Street Harbor Park from May 22, 2026, to September 7, 2026.

About the Flag:
This flag connects Philadelphia’s immigrant history with the artist’s own family story and the traditions passed down through generations. Inspired by the way her Ama (grandmother) and mother peeled apples in one long spiral, calling them “Apple Peel Snake Skins,” the work reflects the comfort of family rituals carried far from home. In Taiwanese culture, apples symbolize safety and well-being, making the flag a tribute to resilience, memory, and cultural tradition.
