Exciting changes are happening along Washington Avenue, making this busy corridor more walkable, bikeable, and welcoming for everyone.

Over the past few months, crews completed major upgrades near Jefferson Square Park and beyond. This includes new sidewalks, curbs, tree pits, pedestrian lighting, ADA-accessible ramps, and even a 14-foot-wide multi-use trail stretching from 4th Street to 2nd Street. The southern median between 3rd Street and Moyamensing Avenue also received a fresh look, with updated paving and a safer pedestrian refuge area.

Looking ahead to Spring 2026, the team will rebuild the northern crossings between 4th Street and Columbus Boulevard, install metal planter boxes, and light up the medians from 3rd to 2nd Streets with new decorative lights.

These improvements will better connect neighbors, enhance safety, and create a more vibrant, people-friendly Washington Avenue.

Stay tuned, more exciting updates coming soon!

We appreciate your patience as we work to improve the Washington Avenue Connector. This project represents a significant step toward creating a safer, greener, and more connected route to the Delaware River Waterfront for all Philadelphians.
