Sail Through This To That by Indira Allegra
05/01 – 09/30
This summer, head to Penn’s Landing Marina to experience Sail Through This To That, a powerful waterfront art installation and community celebration presented in partnership with Art Philly. Free and open to the public.
Created by poet, artist, and community organizer Indira Allegra, this large-scale public artwork tells a story of freedom, identity, and remembrance. The installation follows the path of two women connected by the waters of the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers, Ona Judge, who escaped enslavement in 1796, and Rem’mie Fells, a Black trans woman and Philadelphia fashion designer whose life was taken in 2020.
At the heart of the experience is a vibrant triptych of hand-sewn sails displayed on a docked schooner at Spruce Street Harbor Park. The sails move with the wind and water, creating a living tribute to memory and resilience.
Throughout the summer, the boat will host a series of free community events and public programs, turning the marina into a space for reflection, healing, and celebration.
While at Spruce Street Harbor Park, enjoy free live music, food and drink, comfortable seating, and stunning waterfront views.
