A signature element of the Master Plan for the Central Delaware, the waterfront area between Washington Avenue and Pier 70 Boulevard is expected to be transformed in wetlands park over the coming decade. With assistance from Natural Lands Trust and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, DRWC succeeded in acquiring Pier 66-70 in 2012, creating bookends at either side of the future park, along with DRWC's existing Pier 53 and Washington Avenue Green. DRWC is currently working to acquire additional riparian property and vet possible wetlands creation methods with the Army Corps of Engineers. DRWC intends for this park to be included in the Philadelphia Water Department's registry of future wetlands which can be used for compensatory credits for other waterfront development, such as that planned at the Philadelphia International Airport and Southport.
