Gloria Dei is the oldest church in Pennsylvania and second oldest Swedish church in the United States. The church was built beginning in 1697, and was consecrated on July 2, 1700. The church has many Swedish artifacts and art pieces, including a chandelier made by artist Carl Milles, and models of Fogel Grip and Kalmar Nyckel, the first Swedish ships to arrive in New Sweden. The collection of historical and religious artifacts include bronze crosses and 18th Century bibles in Swedish and English. Today the church is owned and maintained by its congregation of Episcopalians.
