Delaware River Trail
DRWC prepares to close the trail gap between Penn Treaty Park and the Battery.
In 2020, DRWC completed a section of the Delaware River Trail connecting Rivers Casino to Penn Treaty Park after several years of design and community feedback. This segment ended with a 100-foot gap between the park and PECO Delaware Generating Station, now in redevelopment as The Battery. Still, DRWC now has an opportunity to close this gap thanks to a grant obtained through HUD. Once complete, this trail segment will close this gap and connect to a DRT segment constructed along The Battery’s property. Eventually, it will continue north, connecting to NorthBank and Graffiti Pier.
DRWC and its designer NV5 will begin designing this trail segment in Summer 2024 with survey, ground penetrating radar, and geotechnical work. Once this initial work is complete, the design will start in late summer/early Fall 2024, and we will engage with agencies, friend groups, and community members to inform the design process. The entire design process is expected to take approximately nine months.
