Please note that due to construction, the entrance/exit to the Delaware River Trail by the Walmart is temporarily closed. Access to the trail is available at Washington Avenue.
The south segment of the Delaware River Trail (DRT) will run along the river between Washington Avenue Pier and Pier 68 (roughly between Washington Avenue and Pier 70 Boulevard) in South Philadelphia.
The trail segment was designed within the existing Delaware River Trail design guidelines and features a pedestrian and bicycle path, complemented by landscaping, solar lighting, and site furnishings. The pedestrian path is made of stone fines while the bi-directional bike path will be constructed of asphalt pavement. Special concrete unit pavers are used to provide a visual and tactile change at pedestrian and bicyclist overlap areas. New landscaping will frame the trail, replacing invasive volunteer plants with native trees, shrubs, and grasses. Lighting, seating, and trash receptacles will ensure that the trail is safe and inviting. The design also includes new fencing that will provide a barrier to the abandoned piers. The section of the DRT South segment between Piers 64 and 68 (Tasker Avenue to Pier 70 Boulevard) is currently under construction and is expected to open in late 2018.
