Founded in 2007, Busses is a three-piece rock band from Philadelphia, featuring Dave Brett, Jason Bachman, and Nick Apice. The trio charts new destinations on the post-rock spectrum, honing their collective gift for writing complex yet concise arrangements. Their songs shift effortlessly from delicate and fluid to ecstatic and heavy tones. Paint-peeling guitars and cavernous drums remain trademarks, but a heightened attention to dynamics defines their songs, and a reflective haze softens the edges.
At the helm is singer-guitarist Brett, whose elastic voice reflects the band’s range. Thick and intricate countermelody comes from bassist and keyboardist Bachman, who locks in effortlessly with Spices polyrhythmic drumming, rooted in an unwavering pulse that also breathes organically. Busses wring multi-faceted ideas from a few key components, but ultimately this is music to get lost in.
After a string of releases, culminating in 2015’s Wizard of the Eye, the band took a break to focus on family and other creative projects. Four years wiser, they return with a greater attention to performance and songwriting, with a set of new, unreleased songs.
