Mouth-Watering Food Hits the Shores of the Delaware River This Summer

If Philadelphia is known for anything, it’s our devoted sports fans, our rich American history, and—perhaps most importantly—food. Philly is a city full of connoisseurs of greasy food, cheesy food, gourmet food, and, starting this summer at the Delaware River Waterfront, one-of-a-kind food served out of historical shipping containers. We hope your appetite is big enough to handle the excitement that the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC) is bringing to the Philly food world this summer. Opening May 22nd to the public, Spruce Street Harbor Park Presented by Univest/Valley Green Bank and Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest will be hosting some of Philly food’s biggest names—Franklin Fountain, Shane Confectionary, Federal Donuts, and FOUR different Garces Group locations. Keep reading for specific menu items and special features (including food allergy information) but we should warn you: due to excessive mouth-watering, you may want to wear a bib.

  • Sweet Treats at the S.S. Franklin Fountain

Franklin Fountain

Every true Philadelphian (and visitor) has stood in the long Market Street line waiting for a cold, creamy scoop of Franklin Fountain ice cream at least once, and now those same frozen treats (and some brand new ones) can be found at the S.S. Franklin Fountain—a shipping container inspired by 30s and 40s naval ships—all summer long at the Spruce Street Harbor Park Presented by Univest/Valley Green Bank. In our opinion, nothing quite says summer on the waterfront like a waffle ice cream sandwich on a hot day. Specific menu items include:
  • The Mighty Warship: a colossal edible masterpiece inspired by the Olympia and designed only for SSHP, consisting of a waffle boat, 2 scoops of ice cream, 2 toppings and whipped cream with a (literal and metaphorical) cherry on top
  • The Waffle Ice Cream Sandwich, appearing exclusively at Spruce Street Harbor Park
  • A wide variety of the Franklin Fountain classics, providing enough kinds of ice creams and cones to please even the pickiest of ice cream eaters

More information can be found at the Franklin Fountain WebsiteTwitterInstagram, and Facebook.

  • Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest

Shane Confectionery

A high dose of salt-water taffy and fudge at the vintage carnival-themed outpost of Shane Confectionary is always what the doctor ordered (well, we assume, anyway). Located in the Lodge at Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest, the outpost features all of the ingredients for a summer day reminiscent of childhoods spent at the State Fair. The menu includes:
  • Cotton candy, popcorn, house-made chocolates, salt-water taffy and fudge—the summer staples that perfectly compliment an outdoor summer roller skating rink.
  • Once you’ve stuffed your face with sticky desserts, you can step into the Shane Confectionary period-themed photo booth that will be set up complete with vintage-inspired dress up clothes and props worthy of a boardwalk carnival

More information can be found at the Shane Confectionery WebsiteTwitterInstagram, and Facebook.

  • Port FedNuts fried chicken sandwich

Federal Donuts

Nothing says happiness quite like fried chicken and fresh donuts. Federal Donuts is bringing this famous combination landside this summer at Port FedNuts, located on the boardwalk at Spruce Street Harbor Park Presented by Univest/Valley Green Bank. Magic will happen in this modified shipping container, where Federal Donuts will exclusively be serving their first fried chicken sandwich. Below are the menu items, but we suggest you step away from the cubicle so your stomach growling does not disrupt your coworkers:
  • Cold Brewed Iced Coffee
  • Fried Chicken Sandwich with American cheese, buttermilk ranch seasoning, Red Hot mayo and dill pickles
  • Bag O Donuts: 6 mini cinnamon sugar donuts
More information can be found at the Federal Donuts Website, Twitter, Instagram,
Facebook and Tumblr
  • Chifa

Garces Group

Renowned Chef and Restaurateur, Jose Garces, is bringing his unique flavor back to the Waterfront in the form of four food and beverage offerings, expanding on his Blue Anchor restaurant from 2014. Ranging from street tacos to Korean-style glazed pork ribs, the Garces Group will definitely not fail to please the food-seekers of Philadelphia. Menu items for the four stations—Chifa, the SSHP Boardwalk, The Lodge at Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest, and the Distrito Taco Truck—are listed below.

Chifa at Spruce Street Harbor Park Presented by Univest/Valley Green Bank:
  • Chifa’s signature Pork Belly Bao Buns
  • Chicken Wings with spicy garlic-ginger sauce
  • Glazed Pork Ribs

  • Chicago-style hot dog
  • Bacon Knockwurst with truffle-apple salad

Frozen Delights

Don’t worry; we would never abandon the classics! For kids and kids at heart, food concessionaire Daniel Rivera, a waterfront partner for many years, will continue to serve staple summer delights: soft ice cream, hot dogs, funnel cake and more across SSHP, Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest and the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing
